Omega Seamaster 2864. This is a very special watch in stainless steel with a black gilt dial and fitted with a distressed tobacco leather strap. This has an automatic-winding Calibre 500 movement, and the serial dates this watch to 1958. This model marks a decade of the Seamaster having been in production and was in the last year before the Hippocampus started being applied to the caseback of Omegas. A true transitional piece.
Featuring a 35mm diameter case with sharp extended lugs, and an acrylic crystal. An original gilt black dial with applied silver baton indexes with numbered indexes at 3,6,9 and 12, applied Omega logo, and with silver dauphine hands. With signed Omega crown.
The Seamaster is the longest running product line still produced by Omega. It was introduced in 1948, and was based upon designs made for the British Royal Navy towards the end of World War II.
The original Seamaster's key feature was an O-ring gasket used to provide its waterproof seal. This design had been developed for use in submarines during the war, and turned out to also be useful for watches, where it made them much less vulnerable to temperature and pressure changes than earlier (lead or shellac) based gasket designs. The Omega Seamaster first made a diving record in 1955, when diver Gordon McLean reached a depth of 62.5 metres (205 ft) in Australia.
Fully serviced, timed and adjusted, new OEM parts where required, otherwise parts were re-conditioned and re-used, and offered with our 2 year warranty of accurate time keeping and operation.
